Vibrant Sue-Livia van Wyk of South Roots will facilitate the combined music, singing and dancing workshops at the Indra Congress Pathways.

Sue-Livia has been a performing artist in South Roots for the past ten years and now leads the team as director / choreographer.  She studied business management and music therapy.

Her ambition in life is to create a platform for people to express who they are, to sing their songs, dance their dances and to tell their stories.  As a performing artist, with a love for community development, she discovered the power of the arts, to tell stories, restoring dignity and identity and to help people overcome insecurities.

In 2013 Sue-Livia recorded her first album – HOLD ON and has impacted audiences locally and internationally with her songs of purpose Identity and design.

Indra Congress co-organisers: ARROWSA Bechet co-ordinator Bhekithemba Dlamini

Bheki writes: "I have been involved with ARROWSA since I was in high school.  After my high school career I volunteered as co-leader facilitator/co-ordinator at ARROWSA Bechet till I took over as co-ordinator of the group in 2013. During my time I participated in numerous productions and outreach activities and represented ARROWSA Bechet as a performer and later assistant co-ordinator for ARROWSA on field trips to the southern Kalahari, Northern cape, Cape town, Western cape, Derry/Londonderry, Northern Ireland, Plymouth, United Kingdom, Bethlehem, Palestine.

In 2015 I was chosen to represent the city of Durban as the co-ordinating teacher and artistic director to accompany management of eThekwini Local History Museums and six secondary students, who had won a performance local history museum competition, to Bremen, Germany. I devised a short musical performance from workshops with the six students over two months preparation for them to perform at the Night of the Youth festival in Bremen, Germany."

We are excited to work with the enthusiastic Bhekithemba Dlamini and his ARROWSA Bechet team at the Indra Congress Pathways!

"Understand that to achieve anything it requires faith, belief in yourself, hardwork and dedication.  Have a vision, see the bigger picture. Its not about winning or losing, its about everyday hardwork and about thriving on those challenges."

It's also about embracing the pain that you'll experience in the end of the race and being afraid of it."

eThekwini Abasha Bash 2017 Group

The eThekwini Abasha Bash 2017 group that are part of the eThekwini Local History Passbook Competition (see https://www.facebook.com/LHMPassbookCompetition/ ) are attending the Indra Congress Pathways.  They represented eThekwini Local History Museums at the Bremen Youth Festival in 2017 and they also performed their devised work on Steve Biko at the Passbook Competition Educator's workshop 2018.  The vibrant group is made up of teenagers who attend schools in the Durban area and who were judged as the best performers at the Abasha Bash 2017 competition.  The group will be led at the Indra Congress Pathways by two eThekwini Local History Museum, Bergtheil Museum Westville, interns Zinhle and Mbali.

A video of an extract of the exciting performance of the Abasha Bash 2017 group is on view at the Passbook Competition art exhibition at the Durban art gallery until the 26 May 2018.  The exhibition celebrates the five year mark of the Passbook competition.

ARROWSA is privileged to be one of the partners of this project.  The art exhibition not only includes a video of the Abasha Bash group that will be attending the Indra Congress Pathways but also is worth a visit for the impressive artefacts made by mainstream and special needs Primary School learners from Grade 4 to Grade 7.  The artworks explore the themes posed by the Local History Museum Passbook Competition over the past five years and are well worth seeing!

We look forward to sharing with the Local History Museum interns and Abasha Bash 2017 team at the Indra Congress Pathways!
